My talk page from Feb 20, 2005 to beginning of May 2005:
Rhythmic modes and Geisslerlieder
[edit]Thanks for both of these, Antandrus--clear and helpful!
In fact, if the author weren't you, I would have thought Geisslerlieder was a put-on: merry songs of the self-flagellators--straight out of Monty Python, no?
Cheers, Opus33 16:24, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Thanks on WoW

Yes, I have two string quartets to get out the door before, don't laugh, some accordian music. Stirling Newberry 23:44, 23 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Accordian Music
[edit]There is a large international community that wants new music to play, particularly music written for their instrument. Remember Haydn's law of Baryton composition - write what your patron's play. Stirling Newberry 00:22, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Scarlatti sonatas
[edit]Hey! I'm a new user here and when I was checking the 'sonata' article, I noticed that there were no Scarlatti's sonatas mentioned. I'm not too familiar with them and you seem to be an expert for early music. Could you add some of them? Looking forward for more collaborations (the only major work I did until now is categorizing pianists, but better than nothing!) --Missmarple 18:08, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I did not use to like him, several years ago, but Vivaldi is on the way - out. But, this was not vandalism, you insisted it was.
User: nobody (note by Antandrus: this was actually User: 4.161.5.193; there IS a user named "nobody", which 4.161.5.193 is not)
- Hello, User:4.188.96.38 and User: 4.161.5.193, are you seriously suggesting that this [1] is NOT vandalism? You removed his entire biography. Give me a break, please. If you would like to add useful information to Wikipedia articles, that is also allowed. Antandrus 21:06, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)
So, let others take care of this?
I have not been accused in Vandalism in Progress about removing his biography, but kept his list of music. (added by User: 4.161.5.193)
- No, you haven't, because one-time vandalisms are not listed there, and anyway I fixed it. Removal of huge slabs of information is considered by the community to be vandalism, which is why I called it that, and I still fail to understand why you would do such a thing. Antandrus 22:17, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Did you know...
[edit]I know your summary said it wasn't quite done, but I submitted it to the queue anyway, since the jail bit was too good to pass up, and music articles *are* underrepresented.

[edit]Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. Krystof Harant
[edit]You wrote: thank you for your edits to Kryštof Harant z Polžic a Bezdružic; really I'm impressed anyone else knew about this guy; he's pretty interesting (but really shouldn't have bombarded the imperial palace with the emperor inside! bad move!)
- The name is frequently seen in Czech publications describing this time. He is mentioned as traveller or soldier, never as composer. I got very suprised by the fact there was a composer at this time and place - common knowledge of Czechs doesn't know anyone before 19th century.
- His cannoneer activity had likely made only little difference to his fate since the Emperor was on way to exterminate/expell all his opponents, once forever and no matter what. This stubborness made Thirty Years War so long. Pavel Vozenilek 03:33, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Just out of curiosity, how does this (or any) article get moved both out of VfD and/or renamed? Thanks. hydnjo talk 20:53, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Well Your adminship, let me add my Congratulations .
- Virtual piano came up when I was trying to recall where 440Hz was on a piano (I was fooling around with a guitar tuning program) and did a Google/Search Wikipedia on piano. I saw the VfD tag, added my two cents and added it to my watchlist. At the time I didn't realize how long it had been on VfD!
- BTW, if I were to search today I'd start with Wikiwax [2], a very fine lookahead engine which presents the choice "piano, Virtual". My best wishes to you and your new authority, I'm confident that you will do well. ;-) hydnjo talk 23:41, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Oh, sure, blame it all on me! You would have just found something else interesting to read otherwise. :-) (Notes from your strange anonymous secret admirer... or something... above?) Incidentally, if you have more time to read, I was egged on to contribute to meta:Polls are evil by Kim Bruning, which is a bit of philosophizing that needs more eyes; a topic that needed to be more than a semi-humorous poll. I admit it... I like writing about the meta stuff too, but it seems almost presumptuous to do so. Speaking of reading Wikipedia instead of doing work -- time for class. Musician's welcome
[edit]Thank you, Antandrus. I can't claim anything like your musical qualifications, nor will I have as much time as I'd like to devote to the project - but I hope I'll (slowly) be able to contribute something worthwhile!
I see musical quotations dotted about Wikipedia in the form of .png files - what's the best way to go about creating them? Do you need a music notation tool like Sibelius, then Save As…? You can enter maths formulas which get rendered as TeX - it would be great if you could do the same sort of thing for music. --RobertG 09:08, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Hello again. Could you take a look at this? It seems a legitimate question but I don't have the answer. thanks, hydnjo talk 18:54, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Note taken regarding Unicode notation, I just assumed that all browsers would be OK. On another fine point, which would be preferable for dual notation: G#7/Ab7 or Ab7/G#7 or something else? Sorry about all the trivia questions here but I'd like to put this one away (if that's ever possible around here). hydnjo talk 18:29, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

- Are you sure it was a symphony? There is a famous piece by Peter Maxwell Davies (Orkney Wedding, with Sunrise) for orchestra, which ends, if I recall correctly, with a rousing bagpipe solo. This could be it. It's a great crowd-pleaser. Antandrus 16:21, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

France
[edit]Do you think you could write a stub at French classical music? It's currently a copy of much of music of France, except it's mostly about folk music, not classical. I'm not sure what would happen if I went to the trouble of nominating it for deletion, since I'm sure there could be an article on that topic -- probably somebody would write a stub... - Wouldn't it be better just to turn it into a redirect to Music of France? —Wahoofive (talk) 22:23, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Is separating out these articles part of a WikiProject or something? I don't see this on Music of Germany or Music of Italy (although that doesn't have much classical music at all) or Music of England or Music of Spain or Music of Russia. We should aim for consistency in these various articles. Although the Music of France article does say "Main article: French Classical Music" it isn't the main article at all, and I don't really think there's much more to say about classical French music, except for the section Classical era to present day, which is pretty lame. I'd feel better if Wikipedia:WikiProject Music discussed it before you go much further. Also see Wikipedia:WikiProject_World_music/Phase_2 —Wahoofive (talk) 23:46, 29 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, I guess it's just a matter of stub philosophy. Stubs are useful so people will have ready-made places to add new information, and since there's already a ready-made place at Music of France, my preference would be to keep it there until it really is too big and needs to be broken out. I couldn't agree more that this area, in fact all the classical music area, of Wikipedia, is very weak. —Wahoofive (talk) 02:03, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)
